About the Project

Project Overview

SPIN OrbitView gives disaster managers a single live view of the orbital layer that emergency response depends on — Earth-observation satellites used for damage and access mapping, GNSS constellations that position field teams and relief convoys, communications satellites that carry connectivity into cut-off areas, and the space-weather conditions that can degrade all three. It runs as an interactive 3D Earth globe with real-time satellite tracking, launch intelligence, and NOAA space-weather awareness.

Problem Statement

In a disaster, situational awareness is scattered across imagery portals, orbital catalogues, weather feeds, and communications-status tools. Responders lose time reconciling sources, imagery is requested without knowing when a satellite will actually pass, and space-weather events that disrupt GPS and HF radio often go unnoticed until systems fail in the field.

Solution

A live 3D globe that tracks every catalogued satellite in real time, with launch intelligence, geospatial weather, and space-weather awareness — so response teams can see which assets are overhead, when the next usable pass is, whether positioning is reliable, and whether conditions will hold.

Before a disaster

Preparedness

  • Track which Earth-observation, communications, and GNSS satellites cover a region and when they next pass.
  • Watch space-weather forecasts — geomagnetic, radiation, and radio scales — that can knock out GPS and HF radio before an operation.
  • Plan imagery tasking and communications fallback around predicted overpasses and storm windows.

During a disaster

Response

  • See the live orbital picture: which imaging assets are overhead now, and the wait until the next usable pass.
  • Confirm GNSS constellation health so field teams and relief convoys can trust positioning.
  • Get alerted when a solar event is degrading the radio and satellite links the response depends on.

After a disaster

Recovery

  • Use repeat satellite passes to compare pre- and post-event conditions for damage and access mapping.
  • Keep monitoring the affected area on a schedule as reconstruction proceeds.
  • Review launch and coverage trends to plan longer-term monitoring capacity.

Key Features

Asset Overpass Awareness

Know which imaging, communications, and GNSS satellites are over an affected area and when the next pass is.

GNSS Positioning Readiness

Monitor GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, and NavIC health for field-team and relief-logistics positioning.

Space-Weather Disruption Alerts

Geomagnetic, radiation, and radio-blackout scales that predict degraded GPS and HF radio.

Coverage & Launch Intelligence

Launch-aware view of new Earth-observation and communications capacity entering orbit.

Value Proposition

One live 3D globe for the orbital picture behind emergency response — imagery timing, positioning readiness, communications status, and space-weather risk — without switching between catalogues and feeds.
