About the Project

Project Overview

Flood Status: Drone Insights is a 3D geospatial visualisation platform that gives a detailed spatial understanding of flood-affected areas. It combines drone-derived 3D imagery with geographic layers — flooded areas, rivers, streams, hospitals, villages, and major roads — so users can examine flood conditions from any viewpoint and see how terrain, buildings, waterways, settlements, and transport networks relate to one another.

Problem Statement

Flood events can rapidly affect settlements, transport networks, healthcare facilities, and other critical infrastructure. Conventional 2D maps often do not provide enough spatial context to understand how flooding interacts with terrain and the built environment.

Solution

A 3D geospatial flood-monitoring environment that integrates drone-based spatial information with geographic data layers to visualise flood extent, waterways, settlements, hospitals, and major roads in a single operational view — supporting faster situational assessment for decision-makers.

Target Users

  • Disaster management authorities
  • Government departments
  • Emergency response teams
  • Municipal & urban planning authorities
  • Infrastructure & field teams
  • Defence & security organisations

Key Features

3D Flood Visualization

Explore flood-affected areas in a detailed 3D spatial environment built from drone-derived imagery.

River & Stream Mapping

Visualise the Budameru River and associated streams to understand potential flood-flow pathways.

Critical Infrastructure Mapping

Locate hospitals and other important facilities in relation to flood-affected areas.

Settlement Mapping

Identify villages and populated areas that may be exposed to flooding.

Road Network Analysis

Assess transport connectivity and accessibility challenges during flood events.

3D Terrain & Urban Context

Examine terrain, buildings, waterways, and infrastructure together for a fuller picture of flood impact.

Strategic & Defence Applications

Operational Situational Awareness

Understand terrain and flood conditions across an affected area in a unified 3D view.

Route Assessment

Identify major roads and transport constraints during emergency operations.

Critical Infrastructure Awareness

Locate hospitals and essential facilities quickly during field operations.

Terrain Analysis

Use 3D terrain models and high-resolution drone imagery to read the physical environment.

Humanitarian Assistance & HADR

Support flood response, evacuation planning, and relief logistics with geospatial intelligence.

Field Mission Planning

Give response units a common geospatial picture before entering affected zones.

Infrastructure Impact Assessment

Identify where flooding may disrupt essential services, roads, and village connectivity.
